Meet the newest member of our data science team

Meet the latest member of our Data Science team, Ashish Jha. Ashish obtained his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering a Masters in Computer Science.

Our data science team is expanding at a rather rapid pace, what type of expertise are you bringing to the table?

I have worked with a wide variety of domains of data during my masters, ranging from images to audio to text. Hence, adding to the in-depth knowledge and expertise that the Sentiance data science team has, I intend to bring with me, a more in-breadth perspective on how to decipher the hidden patterns in our data using machine learning. My recent projects have been focused on deep learning, hence I would be willing to use that experience in my work.

You grew up in India and completed your Masters in Switzerland, how did you end up in Belgium?

One day, while working on my thesis in Stuttgart, I got a notification about this job opening at Sentiance. After going through the company web page, I was really impressed at the work being done here. I immediately applied, and subsequently became a part. Long story short, it is the sheer quality of work and opportunities at Sentiance that has brought me to Belgium.

What will you be working on for the next couple of weeks?

I am currently engaged in the Smart Home project for the next 2 months. This is a project where we intend to use home-sensor data to derive useful and interesting insights and patterns about houses, and then use these insights to make (or help make) smart decisions.

I assume you’ve got Journeys installed by now, what does your Journeys profile say about you?

It says that I have an easy and short commute. Another interesting inference made by Journeys is that I am brand-loyal, which is indeed true; I stick to one brand, always 🙂

Aside from data science, what are you passionate about in life?

I enjoy playing instruments/singing or simply listening to music, it gives me immense satisfaction. I also love football and most of the racket sports.

We recently introduced healthy lunches and an hour of yoga at the office. What are your thoughts so far?

Encouraging. The spirits here are always high and events like these bring in more energy and motivation for the team. By the way, coming from India, I had a stereotype that yoga in the western world is not that strictly done. But here at Sentiance, I am amazed at the quality of the yoga sessions. 😉

Welcome to the Sentiance team!
