Adding another data cruncher to the team

Adding another data cruncher to the team

A couple of weeks ago, Yves joined our Data Engineering team as Senior Data Engineer. Yves has over 12 years of experience in IT. He started as a software developer but grew more and more interested in exploiting the data stored by normal applications. After which he began his career in data warehousing.

You’re coming Yves-profilefrom a predominantly telco background, what made you switch to the startup scene?

The evolution in large companies made me switch. More and more cutting edge projects are being outsourced to startups. For someone who is always eager to learn, this was a sad given. Hence I made the decision to join a company that creates cutting edge technology.

You’ve been with us for a couple of weeks now, what are you currently working on?

I am currently creating microservices for spark. I am also setting up AWS container services for those micro services to run in. To make sure nothing breaks we are also creating continuous builds (so that we can punish the one who breaks the build :) ).

I assume you’ve got Journeys installed for a while now, what does your Journeys profile say about you?

Well journeys says I am an early riser who has an easy commute and that I am a resto-lover. Can’t argue with that.

What do you do when you’re not staring at your computer screen?

I have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I enjoy going for day trips with my motorcycle during the weekends. I also have a large fascination with the Japanese culture, which ranges from comics to art to food to the language itself, so that keeps me busy as well.

Any quirky facts about yourself you’d like to share with us?

People told me that it’s weird that I know the full lyrics to “The final countdown” from the rock group Europe :).

We recently introduced healthy lunches and an hour of yoga at the office. What are your thoughts so far?

Well I enjoyed my first session of yoga so far, it’s a welcome change from sitting an entire day.The day after less. Still sore ;-).
