A couple of weeks ago, we welcomed Uzair Kamal. Uzair joins the Sentiance team as DevOps Engineer. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer System Engineering and is currently pursuing a MS degree in Computer Sciences with thesis in “Sentiment Analysis”.
How did you find out about Sentiance and what made you want to work for a (Belgian) startup?
I found out through Shahzad Munir who joined Sentiance as Senior Software Engineer a couple of months ago. I would say I was mainly attracted by the (awesome!) technology.
What will you be tackling the first couple of weeks?
During the first couple of months I expect to learn and explore all the technologies Sentiance is using. I am currently focusing on getting more proficient in Big Data technologies like the Hadoop Eco System, continuous integration tools, AWS and many more.
Would you say you are more Dev or Ops?
I have more than 6 years of experience in developing Web Applications in JavaEE, NoSQL and front end tools. I also have good experience in NLP and implemented different solutions with help of Java, R and Weka. Currently my role is DevOps so I feel confident being a Dev and rate my self at beginner level in Ops but I am focusing on Ops side to get proficiency in that as well. In the last couple of weeks I have been involved in the maintenance and monitoring of different systems.
You will be working remotely, are you expecting any difficulties (e.g. different time zone)?
Working remotely does have a couple of downfalls, you definitely miss out on the direct interactions with your colleagues and of course some fun at the office. The time difference makes it hard to synchronize with the team, we are luckily managing quite well via email though.
You’ve probably installed Journeys on your phone by now, what do you think your sensor data will say about you?
It will probably classify me as a workaholic and a homeworker as I work from home and most of the time I am at one place. It will most likely also find out that I am sportive because I play cricket quite often and a family person as I spend most of my free time with my family.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I also indulge in watching and playing Cricket.
